Shaping Force

Water is a huge shaping force of our planet. It shapes our landscapes in large and small ways. From barrier islands that are constantly moving to the Grand Canyon and caves the lasting effects of moving water are everywhere we look. The great power water has is why I have such a love and respect for the ocean and our planet.

Growing up in Florida I didn't get to experience water in its solid state in nature very often. That made a trip to a glacier all the more special two years ago. A moment in my life that truly made me speechless and almost brought me to tears. The sheer size and beauty are indescribable. New York City has given me an even great appreciation for glaciers because their handiwork is visible all over the city.

I'm glad I got to go see a montane glacier because at the rate we're going they're not going to be around forever...

While we were in New Zealand I lost count of all the volcanoes we climbed and drove past. There are 100s just in and around Auckland! They are all dormant or extinct and have turned into grazing land for cattle and sheep. It was amazing to see these animals live in and around these steep craters!
