Majestic

This wonderful statue greets me out in front of my building every morning. It looks even more majestic covered in snow. Just thought I would share. It's kinda cool to walk by something this cool everyday.

Birds in Action

White Throated Bee Eater is one of the species at the Bronx Zoo used for feeding demonstrations. They are known for their ability to catch their prey in midair. Keepers throw crickets into the exhibit for the birds to catch. They also keep a bee hive to feed bees to the birds in the warmer months but thankfully those aren't released into the exhibit while the public is there. They move so quickly, photographing them was difficult. Everyday in the World of Birds visitors get the chance to see these birds in action and talk to a keeper. Highly recommended experience!

Bronx Zoo Amur Tiger Cubs

The Bronx Zoo welcomed 6 new tigers this summer - 3 Amurs & 3 Malayan. The Malayan Tigers are not on exhibit in the cold weather but Amur or Siberian Tigers live in cold climates and are on exhibit all winter long. The cubs are normally very active and playful in the snow. I ventured out in the snow finally to see them play only to find them all cuddled together on their heated rock. Not as cute and fun as cubs playing in the snow but still a great opportunity to see them. They have already grown so much since November when I last saw them! I can't image how big the Malayan cubs will be by Spring when they are visible again!

Boxing Day Blizzard

I know I'm a little late with this picture. It was taken the night of the "Blizzard of 2010" as it is being called. I apologize for the yellow - the streetlights aren't ideal lighting. At this point there was probably over a foot of snow and as you can see it was still coming down. We ended up with 20 inches. Most of it is gone but we are forecasted to get more tomorrow - only 6 inches or so. I'm going to bring the camera to work tomorrow and maybe venture out during the snow and finally see the tiger cubs playing in the snow. If I get out I promise to post those pictures sooner!
